Week 1 - Day 5

Today we will move on from James 1:2-4. I am sure that you are ready!

Read James 1:2-8.

1. Write down all that you learn about wisdom from this section of James.

2. In the context of trials, James provides this instruction about wisdom. How does it relate to trials? In other words, why would he give this information at this point in his letter?

Curtis Vaughn says, “To James wisdom was more than knowledge and more than intelligence. It was a moral and spiritual quality based upon the fear of the Lord—the sum of practical religion.”

3. Read these cross-references on wisdom and compare them with what James says.
a. Prov. 2:6
b. Prov. 3:13-14
c. Prov. 8:35
d. Prov. 9:1-6

4. What do you learn about God from James 1:5-8?

5. Responding to God: spend time thanking God for who He is according to these verses. Consider how you rely upon God’s revelation of Himself. Write down your response to His character below in a prayer or poem.

6. Stronger Jeans (optional): The book of James seems to involve many loosely related topics. As best you can, choose themes for each chapter and an overall theme of the book. If you know how to put it in a book chart, you may want to do that. This will be your optional assignment for the entire week.

I love James 1:5 which states that God gives generously without finding fault! That is so empowering because we deserve nothing. Sometimes we can talk ourselves out of asking things from God. We think we don't deserve it, and we don't! But God wants to bless us anyway. He wants to be generous to us. "Father, Lord, thank You for blessing me today. Thank You for loving me though I'm flawed. Please help me to be obedient to Your calling. Breathe in me Your words. I'm nothing without You. Pour Your grace over me and fill in the cracks of my sin. Cover my tarnishes and blemishes with Your glory. Help me to get over myself and focus on You. Help me to love You more so I may pray on behalf of those I love. I give you this ordinary life, Lord; make it extraordinary!"

That was a beautiful prayer Alisa!!! I want to wake up every morning with that prayer in my heart. I am going to copy it and put it on my computer!!! I am so blessed to have all you wonderful ladies in my life. I feel like I have learned so much through your comments to the bible study!!!

Starting today, whenever I am going through a trial I will try to focus on the wisdom God wants me to gain instead of the trial itself. I will remember God allows me to go through trials to grow me and bring me closer to Him.
